Basiclly, Karma is a Buddhist principle that says: “do good things and good things happen, do bad things and it will come back to hunt you”. Click here to know more about the “Wheel of Life” or “Samsara” represented in the figure on the side.
Basicamente, Carma é um princípio budista que diz: “faça coisas boas e coisas boas acontecem, faça coisas ruins e elas voltam pra você”. Clique aqui para saber mais sobre a “Roda da Vida” ou “Samsara” representada pela figura ao lado.
But does it really happen? Is it really true? Is it a matter of belief?
Mas isso realmente acontece ou será uma questão de crença?

Based on a list, Earl Hickey (the main character of the story) redeem himself from the bad things he did in life by making up for his mistakes, one by one.
Baseado em uma lista, Earl Hickey (personagem principal da série) se redime de todas as coisas ruins que fez em sua vida, corrigindo os erros, um a um.
The world could actually be a better place if people did believe it. Can you imagine people been good for the sake of it? But what about the bad things? Is it necessary for humanity to let bad things happen so the good ones could actually take place?
O mundo poderia ser um lugar melhor se as pessoas acreditassem nisso. Podemos imaginar as pessoas sendo boas dessa maneira? Mas e as coisas ruins? É necessário que a humanidade deixe coisas ruins acontecerem para que sejam substituídas pelas boas?
That´s a hard question and I´m definetely not the best person to have the answer if in fact there´s one. Indeed, it´s the reason I brought out the question to this blog. May be Dalai Lama could help us out on that one.
Essa é uma pergunta difícil e eu definitivamente não sou a melhor pessoa para respondê-la, se é que existe uma resposta. Essa foi a razão de eu trazer a pergunta à esse blog. Talvez Dalai Lama possa nos ajudar nessa.
Let´s analize a situation for instance:
Vamos analisar uma situação como exemplo:
Imagine you´re one of those people who hand out money for the homeless on stop signs or donate old clothes to charity institutions. These activities can have two different points of view: one of them is that you´re encouriging the homeless not to work; on the other hand, you´re helping or at least playing your part on the role.
Imagine que você é uma daquelas pessoas que contribui com dinheiro para os pobres nos sinais de trânsito ou doa roupas para instituições de caridade. Essas atividades podem ter dois pontos de vista diferentes: uma delas é que você está encorajando os necessitados a não trabalhar; por outro lado, você está ajudando ou pelo menos fazendo sua parte.
But let´s face it. If the world is on fire and every bird around brings a small portion of water, it may put the fire out. If not, at least the birds did something with good intention.
Mas vamos encarar a situação. Se o mundo estivesse pegando fogo e todos os pássaros trouxessem um pouco de água, talvez fosse possível acabar com o fogo. Caso contrário, pelo menos os pássaros fizeram algo com boa intenção.
Have you had a situation in your life where you felt something you did somehow came back with the same intensity at you?
Você já esteve em uma situação onde você sentiu que algo que você fez voltou pra você de alguma forma?
Going metaphorically for the “other side” of the story, let us wonder if is it something meant to happen in this life or the next. When are we going to pay or receive for the bad or good we did?
Indo metaforicamente ao “outro lado” da história, permite a nós perguntarmos se isto acontecerá nessa vida ou na próxima. Quando vamos pagar ou receber pelas coisas boas e más que fizemos?
How about the intentions of our acts? Is Karma based on what we do on purpose or it doen´t really matter?
E quanto as intenções dos nossos atos? O Carma é baseado no que fazemos de propósito ou isso não importa?
Since the Buddhists believe in Karma, and they´re considered to be so wise, may be mankind has something to learn from them, but still it only counts depending on whether you believe the Buddhists´principles or not to agree on this.
Já que os budistas acreditam no Carma, e eles são considerados tão sábios, talvez a humanidade tenha algo a aprender com eles, mas isso só é valido dependendo se acreditamos ou não nos princípios budistas para entrarmos num acordo sobre o assunto.
